I decided to build a tunnel on the east side of HLR at Buddleia Pond. Two tunnel mouths were purchased from Tuxcraft which would form the tunnel entrances and serve as a template for the construction.

Foundations were laid using a 3:2:1 concrete mix poured into a 1200mm x120mm frame. The already laid uPVC served as one side of each 1200mm frame with bricks used at each end..

Two 'three brick high' walls were built on the foundations on each side of the track bed. I had some re-claimed Cheshire bricks laying around which I used but I imagine any would suffice. The mortar was 4:1 for the wall construction.

The tunnel roof was made from three 400mm x 400m x 28mm paving slabs laid on a mortar bed. Before each slab was put down, a thin rigid strip of mdf (anything will do) was positioned between each slab to allow for the slab edges to have a mortar joint.
To be continued......
